Sprites!

Rising 1st & 2nd Graders

All Sprites are placed into small groups. These small groups will be provided opportunities throughout camp in: visual art, mixed media, dance, theater, and music, in order to expose and introduce them to all types of creative arts. All classes incorporate plenty of time outside in the sunshine. Half day option is available

Developed as a process-oriented experience geared to the energies and focus of these younger artists, emphasis is not directed towards a “finale” product and/or performance for the Sprites. As such, parents, family and friends will be invited to attend a less formal open house on the last day of the season.

Juniors!

Rising 3rd & 4th Graders

The Junior Program is for students entering the 3rd & 4th grade. Juniors have their choice of classes, but from a limited menu that encourages exposure to all types of creative expression. This program is designed to offer students the freedom to participate in all of the arts that SFOA offers, while still recognizing the specific needs of younger artists.

Full class descriptions will be available at a later date.

Seniors!

Rising 5th-8th Graders

Senior classes are designed to give older artists a chance to dive deeper into their favorite art forms. Students pick their own schedule, so that they can customize the amount of time spent in art forms they know they already love, balanced (hopefully!) with trying something new! Full class descriptions will be available at a later date

Apprentices!

Rising 9th & 10th Graders

** Please note! Students entering 9th grade can register as a senior or an apprentice! The Apprentice Program is for students entering 9th and 10th grade in the fall of 2023.

Apprentices play a vital role at SFOA, and we feel privileged to have you in the program. Those entering the ninth grade will have a two-year apprentice experience, as we feel their value in extending the observation and mentoring process that being an apprentice is known for. By making a commitment to observe and study different teaching styles, as well as continue your own artistic pursuits, you help create a future staff that truly understands and appreciates the goals of SFOA. Additionally, one of the MOST vital roles an apprentice plays is that of being a ROLE MODEL for the younger campers. Towards that end, we expect that the SFOA apprentice will absolutely follow safe and appropriate practices in their daily camp schedules.

As apprentices your responsibilities will vary depending on the needs of teachers you are assigned to. You will all be expected to do some all-purpose work such as: cleaning rooms, removing garbage, acting as messengers, lunch monitors, bathroom guides, etc., AND you must attend STAFF DAY for introductory information and camp set up. You will have assigned duties in three classes for which you will receive a stipend of $150.00 for the three weeks, and you will choose one class you wish to take as a student, in addition to Apprentice class (period 1).

ALSO – AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT – YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO DO A GOOD DEAL OF “GRUNT WORK” – the hands on, physical work that ALL teachers do on a daily basis to prepare for classes or keep our “borrowed” spaces clean and ready to create art.

Every schedule will be designed individually, taking age, experience, and preferences into account.  Please keep an open mind and understand that although you may feel you do not have artistic knowledge of a class you are placed in, you may have the people skills necessary for that although you may feel you do not have artistic knowledge of a class you are placed in, you may have the people skills necessary for that class.
