in the zone (VISUAL ART)

Instructor Paige LeDuc

Mornings 9am - 12pm @ ArtWaves

Open to ages 8 to 14

Cost: $125 for the week

Have you ever found yourself so focused on your art that you zone out- or rather zone in- and the world melts away? Like reading a good book or cloud gazing, art can bring us to a sort of meditation and focus. Join us in an exploration of a variety of materials that inspire this feeling. From origami, to fiber arts, embroidery, painting, drawing, and more, this intensive has a bit of everything that is visual arts. We will focus our attention and time on the materials that interest the group, and each artist will have the freedom to spend their time on the projects that they wish. This is a great opportunity to freely explore some new skills with experienced instructors.

About Paige: Paige LeDuc is a local artist here on MDI who specializes in visual arts and crafts. A passion for the arts lead her to SFOA and SFOA led her to a love of teaching and working with children. Paige is currently getting her degree in childhood education at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Theater Jazz (Dance)

Instructor LeighAnn Curd

Afternoons 12:30pm - 3:30pm @ ArtWaves

Open to ages 8 to 14

Cost: $125 for the week

Using a foundation of Ballet and Contemporary techniques we will infuse our movement with popular and theatrical styles.  This theater jazz will approach movement as mindful and motivated by presence. There will be an incorporation of strength, flexibility, stamina and stability in every days warm up using Ballet, Yoga, and Dance Fitness exercises.  We will learn about objectives within choreography and implement it, therefore becoming actors as well as dancers.  It is a goal to also learn Original Broadway Choreography to share with friends and family at the end of the session.

Students will have the opportunity to perform in the Acadia Dance Festival at the Criterion Theatre!

About LeighAnn: LeighAnn Curd received her BFA from the Boston Conservatory on the Anamarie Sarazin Scholarship. While there, she was featured in new works created by Luis Fuenté, Gianni DiMarco, and Kathryn Posin, and she had the privilege of performing classic works by dance legends like Antony Tudor and Martha Graham. She has performed as a guest principal in Tony Williams’ Ballet Rox and Urban Nutcracker, with Opera Boston, and has done freelance work with XT Danscollective. From 2012-2014, Ms. Curd had the opportunity to study and perform abroad in London, UK. Ms. Curd is a founding member of the Brooklyn-based dance company Inclined Dance Project, where she is still a current dancer. LeighAnn began at Nimbus as a dancer in Nimbus2 and is now beginning her third season as a Company Dancer. Ms. Curd is a teach at the School of Nimbus and, in 2019-20 will direct the Nimbus pre-professional program.
