The Sprites Program, for children entering 1st & 2nd grades, is offered as a full day program, 9:00am - 3:00pm (half-day option also available). Sprites will enjoy their day being introduced to the creative spirit through dance, theater, visual art, multi- media, and music... including plenty of time outside in the sunshine!

NEW THIS YEAR: the Sprites' daily schedule will be broken up into two immersive blocks- visual arts and performing arts. The visual arts block will expose young artists to a variety of artistic media, from drawing and painting to fabric arts and sculpture. The performance arts block will offer exploration of theater, dance, and music. This structure will also allow for more field trips to explore all that the rich artistic tapestry of MDI has to offer.

If your young artist chooses to do only a half-day, be sure to let us know which block they would like to participate in.

Sprite teaching artists offer a stimulating experience for all involved! The daily agenda for these young artists will evolve over the three weeks with short-term projects designed to foster their growing and emerging connection to the arts in a personalized, age appropriate environment.

Sprites enjoy a short mid-morning snack break and should have snacks with them. SFOA encourages healthy food and drinks; we appreciate you sending snacks and lunch without excess sugar or caffeine. Lunchtime will be held in the designated “Sprites' Courtyard” from 11:30-12:00. Lunch may be brought from home or ordered through the SFOA office.

Developed as a process-oriented experience geared to the energies and focus of these younger artists, emphasis is not directed towards a “finale” product and/or performance. Parents, family, and friends will be invited to attend a less formal open house activity during the festival’s last week.
